2008 Marks 31st Anniversary of Rogue Opera
Performed with the San Francisco Pocket Opera’s English translation, Otto Nicolai’s comic opera is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s beloved comedy of the same title. This farce on the eternal battle of the sexes features Falstaff, an aging and portly has-been cavalier who still imagines himself a bit of a “stud muffin” as he simultaneously courts two married women by use of identical love letters. The faithful wives plot their revenge, while a daughter of one of them strives to outwit her parents as they attempt to arrange an unwanted marriage.
The Merry Wives of Windsor will be performed four times in three venues: the Music Recital Hall at Southern Oregon University in Ashland on April 25 and 27, the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theatre in Medford on May 2, and the Grants Pass Performing Arts Center on May 4.
